 insist on cycling on the road when there is a cycling path provided for them? Several times recently, I have been driving along the A565, near Hightown, and had to dodge round cyclists determinedly cycling along the road.

I would love to know why they risked life and limb on the road, rather than the perfectly safe and useable - and no doubt created at great expense to the public purse - cycle route.

Cyclists are a vociferous bunch, and the first to complain if they are not catered for on busy routes. But I can''t remember the last time I saw one using the cycle path rather than the road, or, more often than not, the pavement.
