Geraghty & Miller chief research hydrologist honored.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 1997--Lorne G. Everett, Ph.D., Chief Research Hydrologist and Vice President at Geraghty & Miller, Inc., will be given the A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award on June 16.

The award will be presented by ASTM Committee D-18 on Soil and Rock at their annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Everett will be honored for his outstanding service to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials). As Chairman of Subcommittee D18.21.02 on Vadose Zone Monitoring since its inception in 1988, Dr. Everett has authored or directed development of more than 14 standards. Committee Chairman Terry S. Hawk said, "Because of your international reputation, you have brought acceptance to standards being developed by the subcommittee, which has also improved the reputation of D-18."

Earlier this year, Dr. Everett received the highly valued "Green Thumb's Up" award from the US Naval Facilities Engineering Command for his valuable contributions to the Hydrocarbon National Test Site Advisory Committee.

According to William A. Quade Jr, Director of Environmental Programs with NAVFACENGCOM, Dr. Everett helped in shaping and guiding demonstration projects at the Test Site. Mr. Quade said, "You played a significant role, both personally and as part of the Advisory Committee, in ensuring that our demonstration projects would result in complete and fully acceptable data that could transition into cost-effective innovative technologies for the field." The Navy's National Hydrocarbon Test Site Program was set up by the Department of Defense and also provides demonstrations of hydrocarbon technologies for the Army and Air Force.

Dr. Everett is also Director, Vadose Zone Research Laboratory at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Last month, he was elevated to Full Professor, Level Six. This level of professorial attainment within the University system is "reserved for scientists of great distinction."
