Geotek Wins $2 Million Contract From SEPTA.


MONTVALE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 1997--The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is a regional quasi-public state agency that serves 3.8 million people in five counties in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania region.  (SEPTA) has awarded Geotek Communications, Inc. a $2 million contract for a mobile data communications system to be used in a fleet of 400 vans and sedans which carry customers with disabilities and citizens 65 and older.

The SEPTA Department of Customized Community Transportation (formerly ParaTransit) has purchased the Geotek system for its contracted carrier fleet that serves 60,0000 residents in Philadelphia and the surrounding four-county area. The department provides rides on an advance reservation, shared ride, door-to-door basis. Operating buses, rail cars, subways-elevated cars, and trolleys over more than 2,200 route miles, SEPTA is the fifth largest public transportation authority in the nation.

The Geotek system will provide SEPTA real-time, two-way data communications, in-vehicle magnetic card swipe and odometer odometer (ōdŏm`ĭtər), instrument provided in an automotive vehicle to indicate the total number of miles that have been traveled.  reading capabilities.
