Georgia legislators recently passed a law that would require a
woman seeking an abortion to sign a statement indicating whether she had
taken the opportunity to view an image of the fetus. It would also give
her the opportunity to hear the fetus's heartbeat before an
abortion. The bill's authors plainly intend the law to cut down on
abortions. It is a worthwhile bill. It is a testament, however, to how
many constraints the Supreme Court has put on pro-life legislators that
they have been reduced to meekly asking women to look into the eyes of
their unborn children before doing away with them.
