Georgia O'Keeffe: Some Memories of Drawing.

GEORGIA O'KEEFFE: SOME MEMORIES OF DRAWING. Doris Bry, Editor. Alburquerque: University of New Mexico Press, 1988. 108 pp., hardbound, $19.95.

"This is a drawing of something I never saw except in the drawing. When one begins to wander around in one's thoughts and half thoughts what one sees is often surprising." These descriptions of her drawings by Georgia O'Keeffe exemplify the personal insights that accompany each of the twenty-one drawings reproduced in this treasure of a publication. Each statement captures the essence of the relationship between the artist's intent and the finished work. This book was originally published in 1974 in a signed, limited edition of one hundred copies, which has since become a collector's item. This edition, with an updated bibliograhy, is, in the editor's words, "a tribute to O'Keeffe's drawings, an appreciation of her use of the printed word, and proof that a beautifully designed and printed book can be made available to a wide public at an affordable cost. The book succeeds at all levels, and is enthusiastically recommended for personal and school libraries.
