George Jones Mega Concert Giant Success.
FRANKLIN, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2003
Tom Peters, Executive Director of the Williamson County Chapter of the American Red Cross, based in Franklin, TN declared the chapter's first annual "Holiday Homecoming" starring the county's own country legend George Jones and his band "the Jones Boys" a great success.
The chapter's volunteers led by Event Chairman Mike Simpson, the producer Cleve Tidwell of Brentwood and Bill Akin also of Brentwood, started making plans for next year's show before George Jones sang his last note, after hearing George announce to the nearly 3,000 in attendance that he would be back next year with more friends.
This year "his friends" who appeared with him on stage, included Tanya Tucker, Jo-El Sonnier, Ricky Lynn Gregg, Sheri Copeland the county's own Singing Sheriff Ricky Headley, made the event even greater then volunteers had imagined.
The chapter is estimating that this event will raise nearly $75,000 which will be used by the chapter to provide Red Cross Services to the residents of Williamson County.
Jennybrent (Member): Best George Jones Concert Ever 4/26/2013 6:57 PM
This special little event was amazing. Only about 5 ,000 people crowed into a horse arena and the music was amazing. This writing doesn't give the details of the concert, I think it was written before the list was even finished. The number of special guest that came in were unbelievable and George played longer than he has ever played in his life. His lead guitar kept trying to get him to end it but he just kept going. Said he had never had so much fun. He and Tanya put on a great show along with many others. Alan Jackson was suppose to be there but there was a conflict with his manager due to something so he didn't come just heard about it later. Thanks to the producer who organized this as it was amazing and because of his friendship with them I was told they all came out to help. We will surely miss George. Thank goodness he left us his music and great memories.
