Mr. Black served on General Synod's doctrine and worship committee and was a member of the editorial committee that worked on the Book of Alternative Senses. He chaired the task force that crafted the hymn book a book containing a collection of hymns, as for use in churches; a hymnal. See also: Hymn Common Praise and, since he was a composer, he was also a contributor to it. Mr. Black earned a B.A. from Trinity College Trinity College, Ireland: see Dublin, Univ. of. Trinity College Private liberal arts college in Hartford, Conn., founded in 1823. He was a member of the faculty of Huron College in London, Ont. He also led workshops and conferences on worship and music in 18 Canadian dioceses as well as for such organizations as the Canadian Liturgical Society, the Royal Canadian College of Organists and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. In 1990, General Synod awarded Mr. Black the Anglican Award of Merit. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and two children. |
