Georg Fischer to close Swiss, German plants, will shift production to Austria.


Georg Fischer Georg Fischer (born 1960) was a West German cross country skier who competed in the 1980s. He finished seventh in the 4 x 10 km relay at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. , Schaffhausen Schaffhausen (shäfhou`zən), canton (1993 pop. 73,000), 115 sq mi (298 sq km), N Switzerland. The company announced it will close the Georg Fischer Druckguss GmbH aluminum diecasting plant in Munich, Germany, and shift production (of automotive components, such as gear, clutch and valve housings) to Austrian-based facilities in Herzongenburg, Altenmarkt and Gleisdorf. The decision was based on the lack of production efficiency and an unfavorable infrastructure at the plant, as the company strives to increase its diecasting competitiveness in the long term. The transfer of production will affect 340 employees.

 use of the former steel metalcasting facility in Muhlental, Switzerland, by July 2006. The firm came to this decision as a result of the high renovation and upkeep costs that are needed for further provisional operation. Georg Fischer plans to sell the property.
