Geoka: Exact Locations of Landslides Can Be Discovered before They Happen.

TRIER Trier (trēr), Latin Augusta Treverorum, city (1994 pop. 99,183), Rhineland-Palatinate, SW Germany, a port on the Moselle (Ger. Mosel) River, near the Luxembourg border. , Germany -- A new mapping technology shows the exact locations of areas that are affected by natural processes caused by heavy rain, i.e. landslides, mudslides, erosion, or underminings. The Ladwein Map of Geoka recognizes the areas of the earth's surface Noun 1. Earth's surface - the outermost level of the land or sea; "earthquakes originate far below the surface"; "three quarters of the Earth's surface is covered by water"

where strong rain can result in damages.

The results of the Ladwein Map are extremely precise: if there are two properties next to each other, the map can clearly distinguish if natural processes are affecting only one of them.

Mudslides and landslides only occur at locations which the Ladwein Map discloses as a weak zone. River banks only collapse at places which are already weakened according to according to

The areas which the technology of Geoka identifies as weak zones often seem to be very stable and safe to experts: when they drill holes there and analyze the material, they often find the earth to be stronger in these areas than elsewhere in the slope, leading to the false impression of security. In contradiction to conventional methods, Geoka's SPIRS SPIRS Silver Platter Information Retrieval Software  procedure clearly states that these weak zones can collapse when there is sufficient strong rainfall. Studies with four different universities prove the results of the Ladwein Maps. Feedback from first engineers using the technology of Geoka is enthusiastic.

The Ladwein Map of La Conchita, California La Conchita (population 338 in 2000) is a small unincorporated community in western Ventura County, California, on U.S. Route 101 just southeast of the Santa Barbara county line.  is presented on the website of Geoka and shows the exact location of a devastating dev·as·tate

landslide landslide, rapid slipping of a mass of earth or rock from a higher elevation to a lower level under the influence of gravity and water lubrication. More specifically, rockslides are the rapid downhill movement of large masses of rock with little or no hydraulic flow,  that took place in the area. Experts had come to the conclusion that no landslide could happen there, while the Geoka technology shows exactly where and why the landslide took place.

The results of the Ladwein Map enable the residents of an area to assess their individual hazard potential more objectively. The Ladwein Map also enables effective preventive measures, therefore securing investments in buildings or infrastructure.

As the events arising from extremely heavy rains are mounting worldwide due to the climate change, the mapping information of Geoka offers much needed information on natural processes that can result in damages.

About Geoka:

Geoka has developed the SPIRS procedure for the detection of unknown risk potential. The maps disclose natural processes in flat and in steep areas, thus enabling appropriate precaution measures. www.geoka.com.
