Genzyme, US Bioservices join forces to launch educational services use of Carticel in to repair knee cartilage.

Genzyme says Carticel Care is a comprehensive support program that provides educational services and health care insurance support to patients who undergo the Carticel implant implant /im·plant/ (im-plant´) to insert or to graft (tissue, or inert or radioactive material) into intact tissues or a body cavity.  procedure. Upon undergoing a cartilage biopsy, the patient will be enrolled in the program and a dedicated Carticel Care Coordinator, employed by US Bioservices, will be assigned to the case. The coordinator will be available to the patient throughout the treatment.

Carticel was first licensed by the FDA in August 1998. Genzyme announced in June that Carticel therapy has been used in10,000 patients in the US.
