Genuity Named to Business 2.0's 'Who's Who of E-Business'; Internet Pioneer Tops Off Momentous Year with Industry Recognition For Network and Managed Hosting Services.Business/Technology Editors WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2002 Genuity See BBN. Inc., the leading provider of Internet infrastructure services and eBusiness Network Platforms, today announced that it has been named to Business 2.0 magazine's "Who's Who of E-Business" as selected by industry analyst firm, META Group. Recognition in the annual list caps off a remarkable year of achievements for Genuity and its flagship product, Black Rocket(TM), the industry's first integrated best-of-breed solution for eBusiness. In the "Network Gear & Services" category, Genuity was recognized for the strength of its Tier 1 Internet Protocol (IP) backbone over other major IP backbone providers including AT&T, Sprint, Qwest, and Cable & Wireless. In the "Outsourcers" category, Genuity's full-service hosting capabilities won honors over competitors such as Digex, Sprint, and Exodus. "Industry recognition from Business 2.0 is another notch in our belt, showing that Genuity has what it takes to design, install and manage high-value Internet solutions for the enterprise customer," said Genuity Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, Jim Freeze. "Our experience tells us that the market wants integrated voice and data solutions from established market leaders, not just point products. Genuity is uniquely positioned to give the market what it wants by engineering Internet solutions that others can't, and by partnering with industry leaders so that our customers get the best of the best." In addition to the recognition in Business 2.0 magazine, Genuity has received numerous other awards and accolades in 2001 including: -- The 2001 Ovations Award for outstanding achievement and innovation for creation of Genuity's Black Rocket and for Policy Innovation -- Network Magazine "Product of the Year" for Genuity's managed security services -- Web Hosting Magazine "Best Hosts" for managed hosting services -- Boston History Collaborative's 2001 History Makers Award -- Best of Show Award at the Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC(TM)) INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO for its Global VoIP Direct service -- Best Bill Presentment Award at PBI Media's Billing 2001 Awards Building Momentum for Black Rocket in 2001 In 2001, Genuity led the market by focusing on three key priorities: smart engineering of the technology evolution behind Black Rocket; building strategic partnerships with industry leaders to jointly offer integrated best-of-breed solutions; and expanding overseas. Launched in October 2000, Black Rocket was the first managed hosting platform that fully integrated and pre-provisioned Internet access, Web hosting and Internet security over a Tier 1 Internet backbone. While the rest of the industry struggles to create their own eBusiness Network Platform, Genuity has continued to evolve Black Rocket to meet changing market needs. In December of this year, Genuity launched Black Rocket Voice(TM), an enterprise-class Voice-over-IP solution, designed to help customers such as Verizon and Cisco, take the first step towards converged voice and data services. Genuity also developed four variations on the architecture of Black Rocket to provide greater speed, flexibility and customization for customers, and broke new ground on hosting service level agreements (SLA) with the industry's first unified SLA. In 2001, industry leaders such as PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting, EMC Corp., and Sun Microsystems recognized the value of Black Rocket and teamed up with Genuity to complement the strength of the award-winning eBusiness Network Platform. In December, PwC Consulting named Genuity as the managed services and network infrastructure provider to power its B2E (Business-to-Extended Enterprise) enterprise portal solution. Earlier in the year Genuity also announced a technology and marketing alliance with EMC Corp., and launched a Black Rocket platform based entirely on Sun's Internet computing platform. Internationally in 2001, Genuity enhanced its organic growth plan and dramatically accelerated its expansion into Europe with the acquisition of Integra, a European provider of hosting and eBusiness solutions. The acquisition eliminated the need for Genuity to build out additional European data centers, thereby significantly reducing capital costs, and enables the company to rapidly and efficiently capitalize on the burgeoning demand in Europe for integrated eBusiness solutions and managed Web hosting services. By adding Integra to Genuity's international operations, Genuity also added 1,000 customers, as well as six second-generation data centers in Madrid, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Milan, and Stockholm to its European network facilities. In July Genuity opened a state-of-the-art data center in Amsterdam, which served as a springboard for launching Black Rocket Europe. About Genuity Genuity is a leading Internet infrastructure services provider and the first company in the industry to offer an eBusiness Network Platform. Genuity combines its Tier 1 network with its full portfolio of managed Internet services, including dedicated, remote and broadband access, Web hosting and Internet security to develop a platform for creating scalable and repeatable managed eBusiness solutions.
