After a highly successful testing and sampling phase, Genesis Microchip Genesis Microchip Inc. is a leading edge world wide supplier of integrated circuits (ICs) for video processors in flat panel LCD TVs and Monitors. Founded in 1987 by Paul Russo [9] in Markham, Ontario, Canada and it became a public company in 1998 [10] and now  (Nasdaq:GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) The European term for a global satellite-based radio navigation system. See Galileo. ) today reported the company's advanced gm5020 image processor is now in full volume production.

Targeted on the dual-interface LCD monitor market, the gm5020 image processor offers numerous integration features providing a flexible, cost-effective solution for the rapidly growing market of LCD monitors with both analog and digital interfaces. Dual-interface monitors ensure monitor-to-PC compatibility by offering connection to legacy VGA-style graphics cards as well as cards supporting the emerging DVI (1) (Digital Video Interactive) An earlier compression technique that provided up to 72 minutes of full-screen video on a CD-ROM. Acquired by Intel in 1988 from RCA's Sarnoff Research labs, Princeton, NJ, DVI never caught on.  standard.

"The chip's performance has exceeded our expectations," said Genesis President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Amnon Fisher. "Not only does it work well in all testing situations, but now that it's shipping to customers in volume, end users can finally have cost-effective monitors with the latest interfaces."

To date, Genesis has shipped more than 15,000 gm5020 "Ultra-Reliable DVI" chips to customers worldwide.

"DVI has quickly become the de-facto standard for interfacing high-resolution digital display devices throughout the PC industry," said Mark Waring, DVI Strategic Initiative Manager, Intel Corporation. "New silicon products such as the Genesis gm5020 LCD controller are helping to create new DVI solutions and capabilities, which will aid in expanding use of DVI in the PC market, as well as in other emerging digital display markets."

The highly integrated gm5020 image processor offers numerous integration features -- including High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of Digital Rights Management (DRM) developed by Intel Corporation to control digital audio and video content as it travels across Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)  (HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) An encryption system for enforcing digital rights management (DRM) over DVI and HDMI interfaces. Mr. Fisher will highlight the gm5020's performance during his corporate presentations at Saturday's Informed Investors Forum and Monday's American Electronics Association The American Electronics Association (now known as AeA) is a nationwide non-profit trade association that represents all segments of the technology industry in the United States.  (AEA AEA Atomic Energy Authority
