Genesis Microchip introduces next generation controllers for LCD TV and LCD monitor applications; new gm5221 controller series to debut at Computex 2003 Show.

Genesis Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) The European term for a global satellite-based radio navigation system. See Galileo. ) has announced it has introduced the gm5221 series of controllers optimized for a broad range of flat panel TV and LCD Monitor applications. These controllers are being demonstrated for the first time at Computex 2003 in Taipei, Taiwan.

The gm5221 is a highly integrated display controller that supports both entry-level LCD TV and multimedia LCD Monitor applications. It incorporates an NTSC/PAL video input port, integrated Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC (1) See A/D converter.

LVDS sends data over data high and data low lines rather than data and ground.  transmitters. In addition to leveraging Genesis patented advanced image-processing technology for format conversion, the gm5221 also features Adaptive Color and Contrast (ACC See adaptive cruise control. ) and Active Color Management (ACM-II) to boost contrast levels and enhance the colors of video content for LCD displays.

The gm5221 supports PC input resolutions from VGA to UXGA (Ultra XGA) A screen resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. See PC display modes.

as well as standard definition and high definition video input formats. The image is upconverted or down-converted to a maximum display resolution of 1280 x 1024.

"Featuring Genesis advanced color processing and control technologies, the newly introduced gm5221 uniquely enables monitor panels to display images with a perceived color fidelity and high contrast typically associated with much more expensive TV panels," said Anders Frisk, executive vice president of Genesis Microchip.

The gm5221 and its derivatives, the gm2221, gm5321, and gm2321 are pin-compatible and support multiple input and output configurations.
