In conjunction with the acquisition, GWI will also implement interfaces between the RailConnect system and Georgia-Pacific to improve the efficiency of the movement of railcars through Georgia-Pacific facilities.

"RailConnect is an integral part of our strategy of operating multiple railroads from regionally located customer service centers," said Jim Benz, president, GWI's Rail Link, Inc. Subsidiary, who will operate the Georgia-Pacific railroads for GWI. "RMI worked closely with us to ensure a smooth transition of the new roads to the RailConnect solution. We expect to gain significant operational and financial improvements by operating these railroads from our customer service center in Jacksonville."

At all three railroads, there are now interfaces between the RailConnect system and the Georgia-Pacific system to facilitate the paperless flow of billing information between the railroads and the plants served. Because of the network-centric business model offered by RailConnect, GWI has been able to centralize the car reporting functions of these railroad properties out of its offices in Jacksonville, FL. This approach provides many efficiencies to the railroad operation, including more timely reporting, improved data accuracy and reduced staff costs.

"Because GWI is a short line holding company, they can leverage their existing infrastructure, both people and systems, to operate these railroads more profitably," said Paul Pascutti, vice president of marketing for RMI. "We're pleased to provide such value and service to GWI whose forward-thinking management team has now positioned their railroads for even greater success." GWI, which operates more than 8,100 miles of owned and leased track and more than 3,000 additional miles under track access arrangements, transitioned from an alternate rail solution to RailConnect in order to achieve greater operational and accounting control of its properties.
