Genesee's "Boo-ster" program earns smiles

A check for $256,000 brought smiles to everyone's face when Genesee Brewing Co. assistant vice president, Mark Holdren, made the check presentation to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The money was raised through the Genesee "Boo-ster" fund-raising program which was held during the month of October in New York, Pennsylvania and Northern Ohio.

The fund-raising program was designed to encourage Genesee customers in restaurants and retail off-premise stores to make a cash contribution to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by purchasing a Halloween "boo-ster" for a dollar or more. The customer then signed their name to it and displayed it in the place of purchase.

According to Holdren, the money will be used to aid in the discovery a cure for the disease.

"I want to send a very special thanks to all of Genesee's customers for contributing to this very special program," explained Bonnie Hadden, executive director of the Rochester chapter, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. "Someday, we hope, this may lead to good health for thousands of youngsters with cystic fibrosis."

During the past year, Hadden continued, the foundation announced a major breakthrough in finding a cure. The gene which causes the disease has been identified.

Hillary Stevenson, national corporate manager for the Foundation, said, "In addition to the much needed financial contribution made possible by the Genesee `Boo-ster' program, it also generates a much needed awareness and understanding of cystic fibrosis to thousands of people."
