Generals one win from hockey title.


Byline: The Register-Guard

HELENA, Mont. - Eugene moved within one victory of the Cascade Cup with a 3-1 win over Queen City for a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five junior hockey series on Saturday.

The Generals can end the series in today's Game 4, which starts at 6 p.m. PST PST Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, see there . If necessary, Game 5 will be Monday night at 6:30.

Garrett Bossert started the scoring in the second period with a power-play goal off assists from Michael Frei and Troy Mytinger. Frei also assisted on a goal by Kris Kranzky with a 2-0 lead in the third period before Ryan Schank added an unassisted goal.

The Cutthroats avoided the shutout on Pat Hood's goal with 44 seconds left.

Spencer Alvarez recorded 39 saves for Eugene.

OSU's Haruguchi swims

to All-America honor

ATHENS, Ga. - Freshman Saori Haruguchi capped her freshman season at Oregon State by earning All-America honors in the 200 butterfly when she finished sixth at the NCAA NCAA

National Collegiate Athletic Association
 Swimming Championships on Saturday.

Haruguchi, OSU's fifth swimming All-American, finished in 1 minute, 57.98 seconds. The Beavers finished in 31st place at the meet, which was won by Auburn as four Pac-10 schools finished in the top 10.

UO falls in first Hawaiian women's lacrosse match

HONOLULU - Seven Ducks scored goals in Oregon's 15-7 loss to No. 3 Johns Hopkins in the first NCAA women's lacrosse match played in Hawaii.

Scoring for Oregon (3-4) were Jana Bradley, Cara Mead, Theresa Waldron, Erin Gaebe, Ilsa van den Berg Van den Berg is the surname of:

Trojans bounce back

to even Pac-10 series

LOS ANGELES - USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  outfielders Darin Vieira and Cyle Hankerd drove in three runs each in an 11-3 Pac-10 baseball win over 15th-ranked Oregon State that evened their weekend series at one game apiece.

Mike Lissman went 4-for-5 for the Beavers (12-6, 1-1) and Darwin Bailey added three hits and two RBIs. USC led 6-0 when Barney put the Beavers on the board with a two-run double in the fifth. However, the Trojans added five more in the sixth, including three on Hankerd's home run.

OSU's Mitch Canham homered in the top of the eighth for the game's final run.

PROVO, Utah - No. 22 Brigham Young took five of six singles matches in a 6-1 women's tennis win over 24th-ranked Oregon on Saturday at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.

Dominika Dieskova was the only Duck to go three sets in singles. She fell 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 to Olga Bolytcheva, who pulled out a 7-5 tiebreaker after being down 4-1 in the final set.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Missisippi State took an abbreviated 4-1 win over the Oregon men at the Blue Gray Collegiate Classic tennis tournament on Saturday.

The Ducks took the first point by winning two of three doubles matches before the Bulldogs won the first four singles matches to end the tournament for Oregon.

Beacons earn softball split with Albertson

CALDWELL, Idaho - Northwest Christian College Northwest Christian College is a private, liberal arts college located in Eugene, Oregon and is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ.  pitcher Darci Byrne took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of a 5-2 win over Albertson College for a split of their softball doubleheader on Saturday.

The Coyotes (7-8) won the first game 8-3 as A.J. Cavanaugh and Stacy Smith each drove in three runs. In the second game, the Beacons (7-5) scored in each of the first three innings. Byrne's gem was spolied in the sixth by Heather Kirtley's leadoff home run.
