General Tire The General Tire and Rubber Company is an American manufacturer of tires for motor vehicles.

General Tire was founded in 1915 in Akron, Ohio by William F. O'Neil. In 1943 General Tire branched out from its core business by purchasing the Yankee Network and the radio stations
 announced it will relocate its headquarters in Akron, OH to a location near its Charlotte, NC tire manufacturing facility. Headquarters departments relocating comprise certain sections of finance, legal and human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees. , in addition to most of the Passenger/Light Truck Division. The Commercial Division will relocate at a later date. Remaining in Akron will be certain administrative functions and part of the R&D operations. A new building will be constructed to the company's specifications. A deploying door trim system developed by Ford with energy-absorbing foam and technical expertise from Miles won a Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE SPE - Software Practice and Experience ) Automotive Division Award. The system, which helps protect passengers in a side impact collision and meets or exceeds 1997 side impact standards, took the top prize in the body interior category. Two energy-absorbing polyurethane foam systems from Miles' Polymers Division were critical to the deploying door trim, allowing it to help absorb side impact forces, thereby reducing the forces on vehicle occupants.

) have announced they will develop definitions for ground rubber used in modified-asphalt pavements. The Council will develop and submit the proposed definitions to ASTM Committee D4.45, the Committee for Modified Asphalt Specifications. The proposed definitions will be prepared and sent to the D4.45 task group on scrap tire rubber. Once approved by the task group, the proposed definitions will be sent to the full committee for consideration.
