General Semiconductor Introduces Its New 100 Volt Schottky.Business & High Tech Editors MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 2000 General Semiconductor, Inc. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange : SEM), a leading supplier of power management devices, has expanded its Schottky rectifier rectifier, component of an electric circuit used to change alternating current to direct current. Rectifiers are made in various forms, all operating on the principle that current passes through them freely in one direction but only slightly or not at all in the product line. The Company now offers Schottky products with reverse voltages up to 100V. These high voltage The term high voltage characterizes electrical circuits, in which the voltage used is the cause of particular safety concerns and insulation requirements. High voltage is used in electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to generate X-rays and particle beams, to Schottky rectifiers are initially offered with forward current ratings of 2, 10 and 20 Amps. The 20 Amp version is a dual diode common-cathode device. Other current ratings will be introduced shortly. These products are being offered in axial, surface-mount and power packages, including the new isolated TO-220. The majority carrier conduction of Schottky rectifiers results in faster switching speeds, lower stored charge and lower forward voltage drops than standard rectifiers. These attributes reduce power losses and improve efficiency. General Semiconductor's new proprietary Schottky barrier process reduces leakage current and improves high temperature performance allowing operation up to junction temperatures of 175(degree)C. All General Semiconductor Schottky rectifiers have an ion-implanted guardring for improved reverse energy handling capability. Typical applications include high frequency switch mode power supplies, DC/DC converters, freewheeling free·wheel·ing adj. 1. a. Free of restraints or rules in organization, methods, or procedure. b.
