Listed in CACM 2(5):16 (May 1959). ), has been selected to provide training and technical support to the Homeland Defense Equipment Reuse (HDER) Pilot Program, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office for Domestic Preparedness (ODP ODP - Open Distributed Processing ), and the Department of Energy, Office of Assets Utilization, National Center of Excellence for Materials Recycle.

The goal of the HDER Program is to enhance the domestic preparedness capability of the nationwide network of emergency responder agencies by providing surplus radiological detection instrumentation and equipment, as well as training.

GP will continue to provide on-site training to designated emergency responders as part of their existing services to ODP's Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP DPETAP Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program ).

DPETAP provides detailed technical information and equipment operation and maintenance training to assist Emergency Responders throughout the country to more effectively select, use, and maintain the detection equipment used in response to a weapons of mass destruction Weapons that are capable of a high order of destruction and/or of being used in such a manner as to destroy large numbers of people. In the first 24 months of operation, GP Mobile Technical Assistance Teams traveled to 76 participating jurisdictions providing 1,052 courses with a throughput of over 16,624 students.

In support of the new HDER program, GP will be initially be providing courses to first responders in the ten largest metropolitan areas in the nation.
