This detailed military biography is well organized and written in a pleasant conversational style. Lengel shows how Washington's life was gently molded and guided into a military career from an early age. He then shows how the 21-year-old Washington gained further experience with the Virginia militia The Virginia militia is composed of the body of the people in the Commonwealth of Virginia which is an armed force of all citizens capable of bearing arms.
