  • NAACP Image Award - President's Award, United States

 in the Data Products category from one of its most important customers, GTE.

The award was presented during GTE's annual three-day, corporate-wide celebration of excellence. The purpose of this event, which was held in the Meyerson Symphony Center Symphony Center is a music complex in Chicago, Illinois and is home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Symphony Center includes Orchestra Hall, which dates from 1904; Buntrock Hall, a rehearsal and performance space; a public multi-story rotunda; Rhapsody  in Dallas, was to recognize GTE preferred suppliers, as well as individuals and teams throughout GTE, whose performance met the Company's very high standards for excellence set across a wide range of categories.

The award to General DataComm recognizes not only the quality of its products, but other key metrics including technical support, price/performance, and on-time delivery. Of the over 1100 suppliers to GTE, only 40 qualified to participate in this conference. In winning this award, General DataComm was chosen as being the best in its class, ahead of five other finalists in the Data Products category. This is the second year in a row that General DataComm has won this award, and the fifth consecutive year that the company has been named a preferred supplier for its consistently high rankings under the GTE system.

The award was presented by Tom White, president of GTE telephone operations, to Jack Everett, director of product assurance for General DataComm. In accepting the award, Jack extended his congratulations to General DataComm's entire GTE account team, especially Keith Bridges, global accounts manager, and Kathy Arnold, customer service representative for GTE.
