The U.S. Navy purchased the grounds to establish this facility from the Brewster Aeronautical Corporation following its bankruptcy in the for the Component and Technology Development phase of an Advanced Arresting Gear system, which will be back-fitted onto existing CVN (Card Verification Number) See CSC. 68 class carriers and forward-fitted to CVN 21 and future carriers. At the end of this phase the Navy will downselect one contractor for the System Development and Demonstration phase. The first production unit will be deployed in 2009. |
