Genentech Among Wall Street's Movers

The biotechnology company said first-quarter sales of its two key cancer treatments fell from the fourth quarter. The company's first-quarter profit surged 68 percent.

Manor Care Inc., up $1.33 at $63.01.

The company said Wednesday it is considering its options, including a sale assets or the entire company.

NovaStar Financial Inc., up 26 cents at $5.29.

The mortgage lender, which has struggled with its portfolio of so-called subprime mortgages, said it is considering putting itself up for sale.

Research in Motion Ltd., down $11.55 at $134.47.

The maker of the BlackBerry handheld device disclosed that the Securities and Exchange Commission has formalized an investigation into the company's practices for granting stock options. The company said its fiscal fourth-quarter sales jumped 66 percent.

Bare Escentuals Inc., up 64 cents at $38.24.

A Goldman Sachs analyst raised her rating on shares of the natural cosmetics maker, citing growth opportunities, including market-share gains and sales of skin-care products.

ECtel Ltd., down $1.32 at $3.22.

The provider of fraud-prevention software warned sales have been hurt in part by slower-than-expected orders. The company expects first-quarter revenue of $3.4 million to $3.6 million; revenue totaled $6.7 million in the first quarter last year.
