Geac Acquires Midrange Software Business of EBC Informatique; Company Expands Market Leading Presence in Financial Applications Market in France.

Geac Computer Corporation Limited (TSX:GAC), a leading provider of enterprise software and systems, today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire the IBM e-Server iSeries software assets, customer agreements and employee base of EBC Informatique, a European hardware and software solutions provider. EBC Informatique's iSeries unit will be immediately integrated with Geac's Anael Solutions division in France. The acquisition will significantly expand Geac's substantial presence in France's financial management solutions market and will provide Geac with an opportunity to deliver new software, service and support offerings to hundreds of new Geac customers throughout the region.

Under the terms of the agreement, Geac acquires the iSeries unit of EBC Informatique's intellectual property as well as the company's assets effective as of August 5, 2002. The transaction, valued at 2,450,000 Euros (approximately CDN$3,740,000), will be implemented on September 13, 2002. Concurrent with the implementation of the agreement, the iSeries unit of EBC Informatique employees will move to Geac's offices in Garches outside Paris.

Both Geac's Anael Solutions division and EBC Informatique's software suites share a common technology platform, the widely adopted and popular IBM e-Server iSeries, formerly known as the IBM AS/400. With similar market segments and technology platforms, the iSeries unit of EBC Informatique and Geac's Anael business unit should integrate easily, enabling both companies to provide immediate new value to their existing customers. Anael has approximately 1,800 customer implementations, principally in France. Geac will be well positioned to license the new software suite to an expanded customer base.
