The four editions will include: the Frederick Gazette, the Walkersville/Thurmont Gazette, the Middletown/Brunswick Gazette, and the New Market/Urbana Gazette. The new editions will be delivered every Thursday on a complimentary basis to virtually every business and home in Frederick County, a marketing concept known in the newspaper industry as total market coverage, with an estimated county circulation of 67,000 copies. With the Mount Airy Gazette, the circulation will be about 70,000 copies including the Mount Airy area. Total circulation for all Gazette weekly editions will now surpass 330,000 copies. "Gazette Newspapers has been doing business in Frederick County for a number of years," said Maury Hassett, newly-named publisher of the Frederick Gazettes and a 37-year resident of Frederick County who has worked with Gazette Newspapers as a sales representative, director of automotive advertising and director of market development. "Frederick businesses and individuals currently invest more than $1 million in advertising each year with Gazette Newspapers and many of them along with a large number of residents have encouraged us to increase our presence here," he said. "With Frederick County's population growing by 55 percent since 1980, we believe there is room for a weekly newspaper like the Gazette to become a full-fledged member of this community."
