 male college students, thus making it "the first of its kind." The founding chapter was recognized by UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  in the fall of 2000.

The group you chronicled in your article, Sigma Phi The Sigma Phi Society, founded on 4 March, 1827 on the campus of Union College as a part of the Union Triad in Schenectady, New York is the second oldest Greek social fraternal organization in the United States.  Beta, was actually a recognized chapter of Alpha Lambda Tau starting in 2001 until it was suspended for violation of our zero-tolerance drug policy in 2003. This was documented by officials at ASU who chose to ignore the national suspension of this chapter in the misguided attempt to promote their university as being "tolerant." This group, upon being expelled from Alpha Lambda Tau, re-formed under a different name.
