Gay lesbian bisexual transgender education.Back in Chicago, before he became President Obama's choice for Education Secretary, Arne Duncan envisioned a school called The Social Justice High School--Pride Campus which would offer a safe haven for GLBT students. The proposal was shot down, but as head of the Department of Education under Obama, Duncan hopefully will resurrect his vision (EDGE, Boston, December 17, 2008). The Graduate Journal of Social Science, a bi-annual peer-reviewed journal published by the Amsterdam University Press, announces its special December 2008 issue of "Queer Studies: Methodological Approaches." Paisley Currah (Political Science, Brooklyn College) and Susan Stryker (Gender Studies, Indiana University) have been asked by a major academic publisher to launch a new journal called the Transgender Studies Qarterly. Professors Currah and Stryker expect the journal to be international in scope, publishing four issues per year (two general and two special themed issues), with a large editorial board to help emerging scholars and graduate students gain professional experience. If you have interest in becoming part of such a journal, please respond to tsqjournal@gmail.com. |
