Gay in the Middle East.


Thanks for Patrick Moore's article on the hypocrisy of news coverage in the Middle East ["Murder and Hypocrisy," January 31]. As we constantly complain about Islam's attitudes toward gays, there are a few points that don't get mentioned. There are two particular poisons that drag on Verb 1. drag on - last unnecessarily long

It's the machismo culture that we suffer under most, furthered by the old "blood ties" of tribalism. These are the albatross around our collective necks. They make up the ABC's of fundamentalism. What about "honor killings" in the Middle East, the burning of brides (with small dowries) in India, genital mutilation genital mutilation The destruction or removal of a portion or the entire external genitalia, which may occur in the context of a crime of passion or as part of a cultural rite. See Bobbittize, Cutter, Female circumcision, Self-mutilation.  in Africa? These are the result of male-dominated societies--that's why they scream loudest about male homosexuality. Hopefully, the idea of individual rights will expand to dissolve these cultural nightmares.

Thank you for your article about the treatment of LGBT LGBT Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender  people in the Middle East. We American gays need to help our gay brothers and sisters in these countries instead of worrying so much about marriage and military service.
