Gay events of color: there may be a paucity of African-Americans at traditional LGBT destinations and events, but in the last decade many queer people of color have banded together to celebrate their lives, sprouting a cottage industry of black gay events.


FEBRUARY 16-19

First out the gate for the past 13 years is the hugely popular Winter Explosion ski trip Ski Trip is an episode from That 70s Show.

The City of Brotherly Love kicks off the first of the spring and summer pride extravaganzas with four days of non stop bacchanalia at Philadelphia Black Pride. Plenty of indoor events abound in case the weather isn't too cooperative. PhillyBlackPride.org

MAY 25-28

By the time Memorial Day weekend rolls around, black gays head south. Many will make their annual pilgrimage to the nation's capital for D.C. Black Pride. For 17 years this event has been a strong draw, and it now pulls in tens of thousands. DCBlackPride.org

MAY 24-28

Six years ago some who didn't go to D.C. Black Pride began to head even farther south, ending up in Miami. Rather than do the pride thing, many will be dancing in the summer opener known as Sizzle siz·zle
