Gay, No. 3 Duke rout Miami in ACC opener

Carrem Gay had 12 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday night to lead third-ranked Duke past Miami 72-42 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Alison Bales had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils (15-0), who had no trouble staying unbeaten against an overmatched opponent. Duke _ one of the nation's top defensive teams _ locked down on the Hurricanes (9-7) all night and had nine players score on the other end in its first home game in three weeks.

Renee Taylor scored 15 points for the Hurricanes, who shot just 26 percent and committed 23 turnovers. The Blue Devils also finished with eight blocks and 15 steals, building a double-digit lead late in the first half and steadily increasing it the rest of the way.
