Gartner Group gives highest marks to PDC's BudTool for backup performance.

BudTool also scored high grades on a number of other criteria, including scalability, heterogeneity, ease of use and reporting/monitoring.

BudTool is an automated network backup and retrieval management tool that backs up data to a non-proprietary format using industry- standard UNIX utilities. It requires no client-side software to load and install, resulting in both cost and time savings. In addition, BudTool scales well allowing for unlimited network growth.

Since PDC licenses only the media server, the cost per seat actually diminishes as a network grows. BudTool supports the following backup server platforms: SunOS, Solaris, Auspex aus·pex
