In the U.S. server market, revenue reached $20.3 billion in 2000, an increase of 15 percent over 1999 (see Table 2). Sun was the No. 1 vendor in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  based on revenue with 24 percent market share. IBM slipped to the No. 2 position with 23 percent market share, followed by Compaq at No. 3 with 19 percent of U.S. server revenue.
