The court held that the diabetic detainee who had allegedly been deprived of insulin while in custody suffered a serious deprivation of necessary medical treatment, for the purpose of a Fourteenth Amendment Fourteenth Amendment, addition to the U.S. Constitution, adopted 1868. The amendment comprises five sections. Section 1


Section 1 of the amendment declares that all persons born or naturalized in the United States are American citizens and citizens
 deliberate indifference claim. The detainee was later admitted to a hospital for emergency treatment and stayed in the hospital for several days. The court denied summary judgment for the booking officer and the officer who escorted the detainee to her cell, both of whom were allegedly informed by the detainee of her diabetic condition and need for insulin.
