Garment Workers Block Entrance to Thai Parliament.

Workers from the Ladybird Garment Company, located in Samutprakan, Thailand, marched to parliament and blocked the gates to demand the government take stronger action to resolve their dispute.

The Ladybird workers manufacture clothing for Guess, Gymboree, PreNatal prenatal /pre·na·tal/ (-na´tal) preceding birth.

, T.J. Maxx T.J. Maxx is a chain of American department stores owned by TJX Companies. It is the largest off-price apparel retailer in the United States offering brand name clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, and housewares. , and Marshalls. On June 11, the company locked out seventy-seven workers. It refused to accept workers' demands, such as higher wages, an annual bonus, and compensation for pregnant women who can't work overtime. The workers are all members of the Garment Industry Labor Union labor union: see union, labor. .

The dispute ended on July 2 when the workers and Ladybird management signed a contract under mediation mediation, in law, type of intervention in which the disputing parties accept the offer of a third party to recommend a solution for their controversy. Mediation has long been a part of international law, frequently involving the use of an international commission,  from the government, and the locked-out workers returned to the factory.

The plates the workers are holding say, "Solve the problem of poverty." The large sign in Thai translates as, "The Ministry of Labor has only gao lao--how very sad." Gao lao is a Thai soup with no noodles noo·dle 1
