Gardner dinner welcomes home soldiers.

Over the past two weeks, the sad story of Anna Nicole Smith has been played out, over and over again. How strange this case is, because in one way, I think I know more about this person than I do about some of my closest friends - but I actually feel as if I know nothing about her.

What a cautionary tale A cautionary tale is a traditional story told in folklore, to warn its hearer of a danger.

There are three essential parts to a cautionary tale, though they can be introduced in a large variety of ways.
 about seeking fame and fortune. It's like that old proverb proverb, short statement of wisdom or advice that has passed into general use. More homely than aphorisms, proverbs generally refer to common experience and are often expressed in metaphor, alliteration, or rhyme, e.g. , "Be careful what your heart desires for it shall surely be yours."

The Gardner Lodge of Elks 1426 and Workers' Credit Union hosted a Welcome Home Dinner for active duty soldiers yesterday at the lodge, 31 Park St. The roast beef dinner was open to the public. Those who are active duty and showed their military ID got in free.

The theme for this year's contest is the "Statehouse in Winter." The contest is open to all citizens age 62 and over. Entries will be accepted from both amateur and professional artists. Professional artists will judge the entries.

All medium of art is acceptable. The deadline for entries is July 15.
