GARDNER, Sally. I, Coriander coriander (kōr'ēăn`dər), strong-smelling Old World annual herb (Coriandrum sativum) of the family Umbelliferae (parsley family), cultivated for its fruits. . Read by Juliet Stevenson Juliet Anne Virginia Stevenson (born October 30, 1956) is an English actress.

Stevenson was born in Essex, England. She studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, which led to a stage career starting in the early 1980s with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Coriander's tale is one of good triumphing over evil and of true love saving the lives of honest people. In a story that is part fantasy and part historical fiction (set in England under Cromwell), Coriander is the daughter of a mortal and a fairy. Eleanor, the fairy, has renounced her heritage to live a happy human life with her merchant husband. Unfortunately, the Queen of the Fairies manages to kill Eleanor. Now enter a wicked stepmother and a devilish dev·il·ish

 husband and a life of misery on the daughter. Locked in an airless trunk, Coriander comes to life in fairyland. She then wafts back and forth through time and place, ultimately bringing all unresolved problems to a happy conclusion.

All is admirably narrated by the silken-voiced Stevenson, who moves effortlessly and compellingly through a complex plot with multiple characters. An added bonus is an interview with the author.
