Garden view from the spa room.

Wrapping a corner of a ranch-style house, this J-shaped spa room gives happy soakers a more than 270 [degrees] view of the back garden. Part of a master bedroom and bath remodel, the room took its ownerbuilder more than six years to complete. The room's roof is a 13-foot-wide octagon centered above a 6-foot-wide spa that sits in a raised and tiled surround. Set in a 2inch-thick mortar bed, the tile floor acts as a solar beat sink that stores the sun's warmth. With five wedge-shaped skylights and generous windows, the southand west-facing room gets plenty of sun. David Ogle of Los Altos, California, designed and built the remodel.
