Garden tours begin Sunday.Byline: The Register-Guard SPRINGFIELD - "Old- Fashioned Gardens," the first local garden tour of the season, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Eight Springfield area homes and FOOD for Lane County's Springfield Youth Farm will be featured in the eighth annual Springfield Museum Garden Tour. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 on Sunday. Children under 12 are free. Tickets are available at Antique Peddlers, Bloomer's Nursery, Book Mark, Gray's Garden Centers, Jerry's Home Improvement Center, Little Red Farm Nursery, Ruthie B's Antiques, Springfield Chamber of Commerce and the Springfield Museum. Tickets also will be sold at each garden on Sunday. Six of the gardens are located in the city of Springfield and three are in the countryside. The tour is self-guided and will take place rain or shine. The city gardens are those of: Linda Goodness, 779 V St., where Goodness built the fences and arbors and created "rooms" in spaces along the house that would be grass or gravel in most suburban yards. Ruth and Jim Ballenger, 1084 S. 39th St., demonstrating how a problem lot with little privacy to begin with can become a special, private garden. Nancy and Gary Karp, 1689 Lawnridge Ave., featuring use of recycled materials and 50 varieties of heirloom roses, including Harrison's yellow, a rose brought to Oregon by many pioneer women. The proceeds from this garden tour will benefit the Springfield Museum's family programs, exhibits and collection care. Three other garden tours are scheduled, two in June and one in July.
