Garbutt Named Head of Sharp Electronics U.S. Marketing and Communications Departments.

Electronics industry veteran Robert J. Garbutt, a 24-year employee of Sharp Electronics Corporation, has been named Vice President, Strategic Marketing and Communications Division (SMCD SMCD Senile Macular and Choroidal Degeneration

SMCD is responsible for all corporate communications Corporate communications is the process of facilitating information and knowledge exchanges with internal and key external groups and individuals that have a direct relationship with an enterprise.  including advertising, public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most , tradeshows, sales promotions, Internet, e-commerce and new product development and design. He reports to Perry Clay, President of SEC.

In this position, Garbutt is responsible for U.S. marketing and public relations programs to support Sharp's corporate image. Since joining Sharp in 1976, Garbutt has held senior posts in several areas of the company. He served as General Manager of the company's newly formed Microelectronics Division for seven years and Group Vice President of the Liquid Crystal Display liquid crystal display (LCD)

Optoelectronic device used in displays for watches, calculators, notebook computers, and other electronic devices. Current passed through specific portions of the liquid crystal solution causes the crystals to align, blocking the passage of light.
