Garbage haulers planned to take trash from county

company to recycle and haul trash out of L.A. County before "key landfills" in the area are closed, they announced last week.

Norwalk-based Mine Reclamation Mine reclamation is the process of creating useful landscapes that meet a variety of goals, typically creating productive ecosystems (or sometimes industrial or municipal land) from mined land.  Corp., a privately held company privately held company

formed years ago by Kaiser Steel Kaiser Steel was an American corporation, whose assets included a former steelmaking plant, located in Fontana, California, and an iron ore mine at nearby Eagle Mountain, California. It was founded by Henry J.  Resources and others, has made its first plan to use an old iron mine in the Riverside desert to house unrecyclable waste from L.A. County.

Under the plan, Western Waste Industries Inc. of Gardena would solicit business for the landfill -- expected to last 100 years -- and actually recycle the recyclable trash.

The waste would come from every possible source, from private companies to governments and residential trash pick-up services.

The trash would not necessarily have to be pre-sorted, said the spokeswoman. Southern Pacific Transportation Co. of San Francisco would transport the unrecyclable waste to the mine, known as Eagle Mountain.

Each of the three companies would have a one-third interest in the venture.

The County of Riverside has agreed to receive L.A. garbage, according to a spokeswoman, as long as the waste is not toxic.
