JUST CAUSE, XBox 360, Eidos, pounds 49.99 VERDICT: *****

THIS really is the year's first mega release. Just Cause quite simply takes gameplay to a whole new level. It has grand freeform design, as you play as a government field operative trying to overthrow a rogue South American state.

It's something of a cross between Far Cry and Grand Theft Auto - and it's completely brilliant.

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SUBSISTENCE, PS2, Konami, pounds 39.99 VERDICT: *****

CONTAINING Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a host of new game modes, movies, and recreations of the original titles which started this popular series off, this is something like a 'director's cut'.

If you've already got the game then I suppose it's not really worth it for the extras alone, but MGS3 is a superb game - and an essential purchase for anyone who doesn't have it in their collection.
