TAKE ATARI, HALO 2, AND DUNgeons Dungeons may refer to:
  • the plural form of Dungeon, part of a medieval castle that is either the keep or an underground prison
  • shorthand for Dungeons & Dragons, a fantasy role-playing game
 and Dragons, and put them together in a big ballroom--that's a lot of gaming.

 administrators at Creighton University Sitting on a 108-acre campus just outside Omaha's downtown business district in the Near North Side neighborhood, the University currently enrolls about 6,800 students. Creighton is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. , a Jesuit school of 6,000 students in Omaha, Neb. This month, Creighton is hosting its third annual GameFest, a 12-hour marathon of gaming for students, faculty, staff, admissions prospects, and K-12 students from the region.

GameFest, which takes place on campus with nearly 75 computers, up to 10 plasma televisions, and four projectors, is surely about recognizing the role of gaming in today's culture. But it's also about underscoring Creighton's mission, says Brian Young, vice president of Information Technology. "There's this kind of Jesuit approach to what we're doing," he says. "We sort of educate the whole person here."

Creighton has worked to make GameFest inclusive by adding older games such as Pong (games) Pong - A computer game invented in 1972 by Atari's Nolan Bushnell. The game is a minimalist rendering of table tennis. Each of the two players are represented as a white slab, controllable by a knob, which deflects a bouncing ball.  to the mix. Corporate sponsors make the event nearly cost-free by donating hardware and software supplies.

Gaming has received some official acknowledgement from IHEs in recent years. The University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission  offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in interactive entertainment as well as minors in 3D animation, video game design and management, and video game programming. --C.M.F.
