Gambling.

Edmonton -- The National Post of February 20, 2004, noted that in Alberta 10% of suicides are gambling-based. One organization in that province has decided to do something to help.

The Alberta Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. , which has 15,000 members, has raised $1 million annually, 50% of their revenue, from casinos. They Bishop Redrick Henry will give that up and investigate other means of raising revenue for their charities which include pro-life ventures. The casinos ban will be phased in over the next two years.

Over the past five years, Catholic bishops in the West have been increasingly critical of the practice of gambling for raising funds by charitable groups and schools, particularly because of family breakups when addiction takes hold. In April 2004, Bishop Frederick Henry Frederick Henry, 1584–1647, prince of Orange; son of William the Silent by Louise de Coligny. He became stadtholder of the United Provinces of the Netherlands upon the death (1625) of his brother Maurice of Nassau.  of Calgary told all parishes in his diocese DIOCESE, eccl. law.
