In this integrated solution, GXS AI 5.0 simplifies data integration and mapping by allowing businesses to quickly and transparently communicate with any trading partner using any major industry standard. More than 600 customers in 30 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific rely on GXS AI for their mission-critical B2B e-commerce (Business to Business Electronic-COMMERCE) Refers to one business selling to another business via the Web. "With the acceleration of change in technology and trading partner requirements, supply chain management has become increasingly complex. A solution to help simplify supply chain transaction management is essential to minimize needed investments in personnel and hardware," said Frederick Totten, EDI staff engineer at Qwest Corporation. "As a long-time user of the GXS AI solution, we are eager to benefit from the many new features and capabilities of AI 5.0. We anticipate improvement in Qwest's capacity to automate business processes, while helping us extend our market presence and maximize business partner connectivity."

AI 5.0 provides the ability to embed business rules in XML maps, enabling the incorporation of robust business logic within the translation map. GXS AI 5.0 now provides control of modeling and data management processes, featuring the ability to support XSL (eXtensible Stylesheet Language) A standard from the W3C for describing a style sheet for XML documents. It is the XML counterpart to the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) in HTML and is compatible with CSS2.  map development with third-party mapping tools already deployed. This eliminates re-mapping, thus reducing the likelihood of errors in modeling; reducing end-user training time and expense; and freeing up IT staff to perform other business critical activities.

The emergence of newly formed government mandates--such as Sarbanes Oxley and HIPAA--particularly in the United States, requires companies to track and retain detailed records of transactions and business exchanges. AI 5.0's new version control system retains a historical record of all changes to maps, allowing older maps to be reviewed on-demand for auditing or problem resolution. Many GXS clients use AI to translate and validate financial documents, such as electronic invoices, payment notifications and remittance advices.

"We are thrilled to offer customers significant improvements in productivity and performance as a result of the enhancements to AI," said Nick Marchetti, GXS' vice president of Trading Grid and integration solutions. "With AI 5.0, businesses gain a powerful data transformation solution uniquely designed to consolidate, simplify, and speed B2B integration environments. With new features, such as an integrated map configuration management system, AI 5.0 reduces demands on internal resources while improving the returns of our customers' B2B initiatives."

AI supports a wide variety of document standards such as XML, ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  EDI, EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange For Administration Commerce and Transport) An ISO standard for electronic data interchange (EDI) that was proposed to supersede both X12 and TRADACOMS as the worldwide standard. As an added benefit, GXS AI also is the data translation engine embedded in the GXS Trading Grid(SM).
