GUSD TO SHUFFLE PRINCIPALS.

Byline: Nicholas Grudin Staff Writer

GLENDALE - Several Glendale Unified School District principals will be reassigned in the next few weeks, changes sparked by the planned retirement of a Crescenta Valley High School administrator.

Crescenta Valley Co-Principal Gary Talbert will end his 38-year career in education on Jan. 31, sparking the reshuffling.

``These eight years (at Crescenta Valley High) have been the highlight of my career, and I'm going to miss it a great deal,'' Talbert said.

Glendale High School Co-Principal Mike Livingston will succeed Talbert.

Livingston started his career at Crescenta Valley and was a teacher and administrator there for 22 years before going to Glendale High as an assistant principal in 1995.

``Glendale High School is a wonderful place to be, but it will be nice to have a new challenge ahead of me,'' Livingston said.

Replacing Livingston at Glendale High will be Lou Stewart, principal at Balboa Elementary School.

Franklin Elementary Principal Linda Milano will succeed Stewart at Balboa. Replacing Milano at Franklin will be Maria Gandera, who is assistant principal at Edison Elementary.

``This is about finding the right person for the right school,'' said Superintendent Jim Brown on Tuesday. ``We looked very hard for people who will work well in the specific school setting.''

The transitions will take place in the coming weeks and months and will be complete by January, said district spokesman Vic Pallos.
