Byline: Michael Baillie

GUS MacPHERSON Angus 'Gus' Ian MacPherson (born 11 October 1968 in Glasgow) is a former Scottish footballer and is currently manager of St Mirren. Playing career
McPherson started his career as a youth player with Rangers, but was unable to break in to the first team, spending a period

to recapture his best form after being dropped to the bench for St Mirren's last two games.

Dorman came on to score a dramatic injury-time winner at Kilmarnock on Tuesday and send Saints into the last eight of the Co-operative Insurance Cup where they will face Motherwell.

The midfielder was also benched for the trip to Aberdeen after struggling to hit the heights of the second half of last season when he was one of the form players in the SPL (1) (Systems Programming Language) The assembly language for the HP 3000 series. Dorman hit 12 goals in the last campaign - nine from February on - and was linked with both halves of the Old Firm and a string of Championship teams.

MacPherson said: "Andy has shown us what he is capable of doing. We know he can get goals from midfield.

"He's always in my thoughts when I think about my team selection.

"You know what you get with Andy. When he's on form he will get into those spaces and he can finish brilliantly.

"He had a slow start last season also but went on to have a really successful scoring record of goals to games - I think it was seven goals in nine league games. That's high for a midfielder and they were all from open play, none from set-pieces.

"We could look at a lot of things. We could put the slow start down to all the speculation. You just don't know but we can only judge on what we see in games and in training."

St Mirren face Celtic tomorrow and MacPherson hopes to once again savour success against the Old Firm.

Rangers and Celtic were beaten in Paisley last term and MacPherson knows Saints will have to produce a similar performance if they are to get anything againstTony Mowbray's table-toppers tomorrow.

He said: "We are at home and that's your best opportunity to get a result against the Old Firm. We beat Celtic in the Cup and Rangers in the league at home but it's never easy."

Meanwhile, MacPherson revealed Steven Robb Steven Robb (born March 08, 1982 in Perth) is a Scottish footballer who currently plays left wing for Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League. }}Steven Robb is from the small village of Alyth and has one younger brother, Stuart.  is to see a specialist about his groin injury.
