GUNVICTIM FIGHTING FOR LIFE.

A MAN was fighting for his life last night after being shot in the head in what appeared to be a gangland feud feud, formalized private warfare, especially between family groups. The blood feud (see vendetta) is characteristic of those societies in which central government either has not arisen or has decayed.  attack.

Wayne McNally, 22, was described as "critical but stable" in St James's Hospital with gunshot wounds to the face, arms, leg and shoulder.

The attacker called at his house in Grey's Square, Pimlico, Dublin, shortly after 9pm on Tuesday and blasted him with a sawn-off shotgun.

 were on the scene within minutes and arrested two men in a nearby street. Both men are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

At least nine people have been killed in a gang feud which has been going on in the area for two years.

 secured the scene around the shooting and began gathering forensic evidence.

The gunman was described as white and around 6ft tall.

A woman coming home from mass yesterday morning described the attempted murder as "terrible".

She added: "I would like to say I am shocked but I can't. Only a few days ago I saw a young fella out of his head on drugs. It is terrible around here and it is getting worse."
