GUNN NAMED McDONNELL DOUGLAS VICE PRESIDENT FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS
ST. LOUIS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas M. Gunn, president of McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co. will return to St. Louis in February to serve as vice president for special projects in McDonnell Douglas' (NYSE: MD) corporate office. The announcement was made today by John McDonnell, chairman and chief executive officer of McDonnell Douglas Corp.
Gunn, 48, will primarily serve as an internal consultant to McDonnell Douglas companies and members of the McDonnell Douglas Executive Council in such areas as strategic business planning and marketing.
"During his 16 years with McDonnell Douglas, Tom has been a significant contributor to our domestic and international marketing and strategic planning efforts," said McDonnell. "We face major challenges in these areas and his new assignment brings us the benefit of his background and expertise, as well as meeting his desire to return to St. Louis for family reasons."
Gunn joined the corporation in 1975 as manager of marketing operations for McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. after holding various Washington-based government positions with the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Committee on Judiciary, U.S. Senate Committee on Government Operations and the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations.
His previous McDonnell Douglas assignments include serving as special assistant to the vice president of engineering and marketing and director of government affairs at the company's corporate office. In 1982, Gunn transferred to McDonnell Aircraft Co. as director of marketing operations and strategic planning. That same year, he moved back to Washington as staff vice president in the corporation's office there. In 1986, he returned to St. Louis as vice president of marketing for McDonnell Aircraft and in 1989 was named vice president of program development. Gunn moved to Arizona in 1990 when he was named president of the helicopter company.
A native of St. Louis, Gunn received a bachelor's degree from Saint Louis University in 1965, and a law degree from the Saint Louis University School of Law in 1967.
The corporation is now conducting a search for a replacement and will announce a successor when that process is completed according to McDonnell.
