When piers are built on ground of poor bearing value, it is often necessary to drive piles to obtain a firm base.  One Imports store were asked ``Do you want to die today?'' by two armed robbers who locked the victims in a storeroom before fleeing, sheriff's officials said.

Officials said two men entered the store about 11 a.m. Wednesday Wednesday: see week. , when three customers and two employees - all women - were inside.

One robber took an employee to the front of the store and ordered her to put money from the cash register and a safe into a store bag, officials said.

Denham said the robbers ordered the women to empty their purses and wallets, asking them, ``Do you want to die today?'' The robbers searched through the purses' contents, but took nothing, he said.

The robbers then forced the women into a storeroom, pulled out the store's telephone cords and fled.

One store employee suffered a minor injury to her hand when she pushed on the locked storeroom door, officials said.
