GUNMEN ATTACK ARMORED TRUCK.

Byline: Jaxon Van Derbeken Daily News Staff Writer

An armored truck was ambushed Wednesday by gunmen who opened fire from a van as it chased the armored vehicle around the streets of Woodland Hills, police said.

The unidentified driver for Brink's Inc. suffered facial wounds from windshield glass shattered shat·ter

  • Dodge Caravan, a minivan sold from 1984 to date
. The van later was found abandoned and set on fire nearby, authorities said.

The 9:33 a.m. attack occurred as the truck was going north on Fallbrook Avenue near Burbank Boulevard. Brink's Inc. officials declined comment.

Residents in the area said they heard as many as five shots and later saw the driver on the ground on the side of the truck.

At least two rounds pierced the reinforced glass in the front of the truck and one round hit the rearview mirror.

``I heard five shots, it was pop, pop, crack, crack, crack,'' said Steve McKinley, who lives near where the truck came under fire.

The driver was prone in the gutter, said Rose Wanes, another neighbor who emerged from her home after hearing gunfire.

``I thought he was dead, but he was talking and moving. It's terrible,'' she said of the attack. ``In this area, we've never heard of this. I've been here 16 years, what is this?''

Lt. James Razukas of the Robbery Homicide Division Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) was an American police procedural television series on CBS, created by Barry Schindel with famed executive producer Michael Mann.  said the truck was going north when a van pulled in front of it.

``Someone opened fire, the truck tried to evade the van,'' Razukas said.

Lt. Anthony Alba said that the chase continued around the neighborhood as the armored car attempted to escape its pursuers. ``It was several minutes - the chase was as fast as an armored truck can drive with a load in it.''
